Governor of Lemhannas Responds to the Trend of Global Political Change
 
*Lemhanas, Jakarta--* Governor of The National Resilience Institute of The Republic of Indonesia (LEMHANAS RI) Lieutenant General (Ret.) Agus Widjojo delivered his speech in the Jakarta Geopolitical Forum (JGF), (Friday/05/19/2017). In the event held at this Borobudur Hotel Jakarta, he mentioned the urgency of the establishment of Lemhannas on 20 May 1965. Therefore, Lemhannas was established because of the need for geopolitical studies.
 
Agus said that Lemhannas is an institution that gives attention in studying and understanding national, regional and global geopolitics in the implementation of national leadership cadre education as well as strategic assessment of national resilience. During 52 years of work, according to him, Lemhannas RI has succeeded to have beneficial achievements for nation and state.
 
The trends of global political change affect the national resilience of a nation in the aspects of global security, economy, politics, terrorism, radicalism and refugees. Therefore, according to Agus, it is always needed the study of geopolitical strategic for developing the main idea of the awareness toward the national condition in order to develop the doctrine of national resilience and national insight.
“Recognize yourself, recognize your country, recognize your islands, recognize your homeland, create a strategy for development and a strategy for defense based on your geopolitical condition,”Agus said. Because according to him, the international geopolitical situation is very closely related to the current national condition and in the future.
He explained, national resilience is a country’s response to challenges, obstacles or threats. According to him, many geopolitical changes occur that move dynamically and unpredictable, can bring shock. “Many changes occur in various places, That is why Lemhannas will always be the great guard  to examine the challenges and threats to national defense and security”Agus said.
Furthermore, this former deputy presidential working unit for management for reform program (Pengelolaan Program Reformasi (UKP3R)) answers the question of a number of journalists related to Islam radicalism after end of DKI election.”We have not finished the transition of democracy. The transition of democracy will be successful if all people believe in the rule of democracy. It is still a lot of number of our society believe that they can find solutions beyond the rule of democracy. It is very influential”, Agus said.
According to him, related to the problem of radicalism occurs because the law has not been able to define more specifically the problem of how that violates and how not to. “The law must be defined and measurable. How someone is violating the law”, Agus said. This is important, as he said, because the supremacy of law must be upheld to face the problem of radicalism.
 
Through Jakarta Geopolitical Forum (JGF), Agus expressed his hope that Indonesia can have a comprehensive study in responding to the development of the world strategic environment as it gained the insight from 22 competent speakers consisting of 17 foreign speakers: US, Canada, Russia, China, Japan, Australia, England, Turkey, Singapore, French, Egypt and 5 domestic speakers to be ready to face the challenges and threats of the influence of the international geopolitical situation.
